Dragnuts Breaking stuff on the dyno Here is the latest on the 1948 Austin Devon.
Rob at RJ Fabrication & I did some testing, took it to cruise night and all was good. Then we took it to the dyno (
OSR /
JnJ Performance) and made 2 ½ dyno passes. The first pass it made 400 rwhp (under driven) to the wheels. Changed the jets and made 425 rwhp and 500-foot lbs of torque. Cool for a car that only weighs 2480 lbs. The blower pulleys were changed (over driven) to increase the boost to 14 lbs. On the 3rd pass, I nail it, it cranks up really fast to 470 rwhp, and some sparks shoot out of the engine compartment. It was on it’s way to be making 550+ until the balancer failed under load. Look at photo of balancer at end of dyno vid. Therefore, the car is down for a while until the problem is corrected. Calls will be made to the balancers’ manufacture. The manufacturers website says the balancer is ok for blower applications. So now I am rather tweaked that it failed but in all fairness to the manufacturer more investigating needs to be done. The engine seems to perform & feels really strong and we believe it could possibly make as high as 600 to the ground.
